I thoroughly enjoyed my time as the Academy of Fun speaker on the Carnival Spirit in January… and some respite from the winter weather in Washington.

My talk topics ranged from:
- A table read of my original script – Anne Bonny, Pirate;
- Photography composition and lighting basics;
- A multicultural history of noodles;
- The different mythologies of the Pleiades star cluster; and
- The scandals that lead to the founding of moving images.
I also got to experience the beauty of the street art of the Caribbean, which was definitely a highlight. San Juan, Puerto Rico and Willemstad, Curaçao had some great work.

But my favorite by far was San Nicolas, Aruba. The San Nicolas visitor center even has a guide to help you “find” the murals. “Find” is in quotes because they would be difficult to miss – they are everywhere! The police station is even covered in a surprisingly cheery one.

I highly recommend checking them out if you ever get the chance.

Looking forward to my next trip to the Caribbean. Until then I’ll just keep thinking of this sunrise and dreaming of warmer temperatures. Ahh…
